Reality → Energy → Nuclear energy
The development of nuclear physics and technologies was one of the great achievements of human ingenuity, which early on became badly tainted by the atomic bomb, and later by nuclear power plant accidents and unsolved waste disposal problems. It started at the dawn of the 20th century with the discovery of a mysterious, naturally occurring radiation. Forty years later, humans could split the atomic nucleus. Fifteen years thereafter, the first electricity generated from nuclear fission was delivered to the grid. Today, scientists and engineers have embarked on the construction of a large-scale test facility for nuclear fusion, with the ambitious goal of emulating, on our planet, the Sun’s nuclear furnace for commercial electricity generation before the end of this century.
