Dalton (1766-1844): Chemist, physicist, and meteorologist. 'Father of
modern atomic theory' (atomic mass unit named in his honor). Formulated
Dalton's law of partial pressure.
Kelvin (1824-1907): Mathematical physicist and
engineer. Conducted mathematic analysis of electricity and thermodynamics. First to propose the
absolute temperature scale. SI unit of temperature
(kelvin) named after him.
Mendeleev (1834-1907): Chemist and inventor. Creator of the first
version of the periodic table of elements.
The observed erratic motions of pollen and dust particles became the subject of one of Einstein's famous 1905 publications (see also Microscopic motions).
